Leather Chaps for Men
Leather chaps are open-seat over-trousers worn on top of jeans, mainly for motorcycle riding. They block wind, road grit and cold on the legs and add a layer of abrasion protection in a slide. Every pair here is cut to the size you choose.
What we make them from

Cowhide is the standard for riding chaps. Around 1.1 to 1.4 mm on most pairs, hard wearing, takes a scuff without failing. Best if the chaps are mainly for the bike.
Buffalo has a heavier grain than cowhide and is a little softer, with a pebbled surface. A middle ground between protection and comfort.
Naked and Diamond naked cowhide is full grain with no top coating, so it feels supple straight away and ages with a natural sheen.
Lambskin is light and soft, cut closer to trousers. A fashion pair rather than one for long highway miles.

Styles we stock

Beltless or side snap lets you thread your own belt and adjust with side snaps.
Built-in belt is self-contained and quicker to put on.
Lace side or lace back uses lacing at the seams or back panel to fine-tune the fit.
Zip thigh pockets and jean-style pockets. Jean pockets sit at the hip, zip pockets keep things secure at speed.
Chaps shorts are a short-leg version for warm weather and around town.
Assless or buttless fashion chaps are open front and back, worn as a statement piece rather than riding gear.

Fit and sizing
Chaps go over your jeans, so measure over the clothes you ride in. Pick your size from the drop-down when you order. We then email an order confirmation that lists the waist and inseam for the size you chose, so you can check the numbers before we cut the leather. If you need an adjustment, or a size that is not on the list, reply to that email and we build the chaps to your measurements. Most pairs have ankle-to-knee or ankle-to-thigh side zips so they clear boots.
Care
Wipe the leather down after a wet ride and let it dry away from heat. Condition it two or three times a year. Removable snap-in liners, where fitted, come out for washing.
Common questions
Do you wear anything under leather chaps? Yes. Leather chaps are designed to be worn over jeans or trousers because the seat and upper inner area are open.
Are leather chaps waterproof? Leather is naturally water resistant, but it is not fully waterproof. Light rain is usually fine, but prolonged exposure to heavy rain can soak the leather. A suitable leather protector can improve water resistance.
How should men’s leather chaps fit? They should fit comfortably over your jeans without being overly loose. Measure yourself while wearing the trousers you normally plan to wear underneath.
Are cowhide or lambskin chaps better? Cowhide is generally heavier and more durable, making it the better choice for riding. Lambskin is softer, lighter and more flexible, making it better suited to comfort and fashion use.
