Leather BBQ Aprons | Heat-Resistant, Tool Loops
Brown Cowhide Leather Work Apron with Ample Storage
Leather BBQ Aprons
At the grill you are close to real heat and you need your hands free. A leather BBQ apron shields you from radiant heat and flare-ups, carries your tools, and does not melt or catch the way a synthetic apron can. A leather BBQ apron is also the one that still looks good after a season of use.
What matters at the grill
Heat resistance. Leather takes brief contact and radiant heat far better than a coated fabric, and it chars rather than melting onto you.
Tool loops and a bottle opener so tongs, a brush and a drink stay on you instead of the side table
A shorter or split-leg cut for moving around the cook and reaching across the grate
Adjustable neck and waist straps for a quick fit over any layer
Full length or waist apron
Choose a full bib for long low-and-slow sessions near the smoker, where you want chest and stomach coverage. A waist apron is lighter and gives more movement if you mainly want tool loops and a bottle opener within reach.
Care
Brush off ash, wipe grease with a damp cloth, and let the apron dry away from the grill. Condition the leather two or three times a year. Smoke smell fades with airing over a day or two.
Common questions
Will a leather BBQ apron catch fire? Leather chars and self-extinguishes rather than flaming, which makes it one of the safer materials to wear near an open grill, unlike many synthetic aprons.
Does it hold smoke smell? Some at first. Hang it outside for a day and the smell drops off. Conditioning also helps. See the wider leather apron range.
